Here you are like to find crazy, pretty, funny and downright kinky fandom stuff from, among things:

Avengers, Game of Thrones, Assassin's Creed, Avatar the Last Airbender / Legend of Korra, Sherlock, Disney, Dreamworks, Harry Potter, LoTR / Hobbit, Supernatural, Walking Dead and a lot of other things I find sparkly enough to share.

Also the smaller occasional dose of politics, opinions and feminism, awesome unbelievable facts and ZIENCE, art and photography I find beautiful and inspiring, stupid silly memes and finally cats because come on, cats.

Occasionally, when assed to do so, I post my own pictures, paintings, sketches, doodles and the occasional drabble.

Welcome. :3

Title: Spiting the Sun
Pairing: Tony/Loki
Rating: M
Summary: “What the hell?” Tony stared. It was Loki up there on the screen, face streaked with dirt and blood, hair tangled, glaring bloody murder into the camera. On his knees, in an ugly too-big t-shirt, looking like he’d been though seven kinds of hell. Loki.

One does not cause mayhem without consequences; Loki takes the plunge and finds himself powerless in an alien and inhospitable part of Midgard. And this is only the beginning of his troubles.

Thor & Loki | Broken Crown as sung by Mumford & Sons

Apparently on youtube only people in the United States, Canada & Australia can view this so if you live outside of those countries go here to watch/download. I’ll try to post it on vimeo later though.

Shut up everyone just shut up right now

Watch this fanvid.

Yeah, okay, so it was a bit tricky to get at the actual video, not living in the US and all, but in the end, yeah, worth it. This is… really good. Really good. You should watch it. Yes.

Final Deadline: October 1st

lokiredeemed:

Ok guys, if anyone reads this: final deadline is October 1st! If anyone stumbles over our project in a month or so and desperately wants to contribute something awesome I won’t send them away though.XD Our goal was to get 100 submissions but looks like it’s going to be more 30.:(

I don’t know how long it will take to design the artbook but I’ll keep you updated on the progress and the final result. Cheers!

The Loki Redemption Project [Tumblr / DA] is collecting art and writing on the theme of a possible redemption for Loki as he is portrayed in the movies so far. It will all be printed as a book and sent to Tom Hiddleston, as a big “thank you” for his interpretation of the character.

Technically the deadline’s passed, but there’s room for last minute entries still. I just wish I’d learned of it sooner! Will really try and see if I can whip something together real quick. Anyone else? :)

I have to say, Thor, honey — I actually go totally with Loki’s expression on this one.

Way to be a dick, Thor, as always. *face palms.*

Way for Loki to be a dick. People should really stop cutting off what Loki says in the line before to Thor. Which was, and I quote, parts bolded for emphasis since people keep conveniently forgetting them…

“I remember you tossing me into an abyss! I who was and should be king!”

Which, you know, IS LOKI LYING THROUGH HIS TEETH TO SOMEONE WHO WAS PRESENT WHEN HE FELL, AND SOMEONE WHO SAID FALL TRAUMATIZED. Because Thor WATCHED LOKI LET GO AND THOUGHT HE WAS DEAD.

So Thor had every fucking reason to call it an imagined slight because it fucking was.

Ugh, I love Loki. I really do, but I cannot stand it when people blame Thor for all of Loki’s misdeeds when Loki is the source of all of his misdeeds.

Loki wasn’t lying. It was a metaphor. He didn’t mean you literally tossed me into an abyss. He means your actions caused me to let go. Loki was obviously quite upset when he found out he was a frost giant. And what did he do after that? Try to assert himself as an Asgardian. “And your death came by the son of Odin.” He is legitimising his right to be the son of Odin by both killing his father’s sworn enemy and saving his father’s life.

Yeah it was a bitch move to attempt genocide on the frost giants, but he was only doing what he was taught. “Do the frost giants still live? When I’m king, I’ll hunt the monsters down and slay them all! Just as you did, Father.”

Loki was misguided, but I believe he really thought his actions would make him fit in as an Asgardian, as this dialogue shows: “I swear to you mother, they will pay for what they’ve done today. I will end the Jotun threat, now and forever! And I will make you proud.”

And then when we get to the bifrost scene, Loki doesn’t let go right away. First he says, “I could have done it, Father! I could have done it! For you! for all of us!” And after Odin says, “No, Loki,” that is when Loki let’s go. It doesn’t matter what Odin meant by saying no. Because this is what it means to Loki: “Instead of the recognition he’s expecting, both Thor and Odin – the two people who had launched attacks on Jotunheim, who are, in Loki’s eyes, the embodiment of the Asgardian ideals he was raised with – turn around and tell him he’s wrong. Unsurprisingly, this pushes him (literally) over the edge.” (http://sigridhr.livejournal.com/2333.html)

I am going to have to disagree with you. He’s not being metaphorical at all in this scene. He knows Thor doesn’t think in metaphors. He’s saying exactly what he knows will hurt Thor the most, and accusing him of trying to kill him when Thor was doing the exact opposite, in what stands as the most traumatic experience of Thor’s life, is a 100% shitty thing to do.

Loki’s being a gigantic bag of dicks in this scene. No, he’s pretty much a gigantic bag of dicks the entire movie. Does he have complex motivations? Yes, and I can sympathize with some of them, but that doesn’t actually remove the fact that he is trying to enslave the world because he’s throwing a gigantic, self loathing induced temper tantrum and striking out at someone who even through this gigantic temper tantrum still loves and wants to help him.

(I have nothing but love for that internalized racism essay. Buh. Yes.)

But the thing that ALL those essays and ALL those posts can’t seem to explain to me is WHY? WHY would he go on a giant temper tantrum? Because he feels like it? I can’t function in a world where Loki does things on a whim; it all has a reason, some logic that may seem hugely convoluted. But logic nonetheless.

What would Loki gain from his crazy three-day, NYC-busting spree? Was it his idea? Was he coerced? There are signs that he’s being tortured, or at least physically abused (meditation in the underground bunker, showing up at the tesseract facility looking like he’s a drugged insomniac). There are signs that this was his idea originally and it all went wrong (end credits of Thor show him spying on the tesseract but NOT looking like a drugged insomniac). There are signs that he’s lying (Thor didn’t throw him off the bifrost nor did Loki want to be his equal).

I always took the scene with Thor and Loki on the cliff as (1) Loki trying to hurt Thor because (2) Loki knew he was being watched. It was Loki’s way of trying to send Thor a message: I am being watched, I need to convince my watchers I am hurting you, and I am going to tell you lies that my watchers won’t know are lies in the hopes that you’ll figure out that I am not happy about my situation and help me out of it. (OH THIS SOUNDS FAMILIAR ‘Hey Loki do you know the story of the scorpion and the frog?’)

My biggest problem with it is that Thor doesn’t seem to get that it’s lies. He falls for the pain bait. He almost seems to understand when Iron Man comes flying by, but he never quite comes back to whatever train of thought he was on. (I personally think Thor comes off as a little naive and ditzy in the movie, just there for fun fight scenes and for Asgard to have a presence in collecting one of its own. It drives me a little crazy, but I chalk it up to a lot of complicated characters shoved into a two hour movie in such a way that they generally appear one-dimensional. Except Bruce. WTF Bruce?)

There’s no doubt Loki is trying to hurt Thor here. And I’m actually glad Iron Man showed up to stop the violence Thor was probably going to revert to in a few more seconds anyway. (Thor continues his habit of grabbing Loki by the throat. ALWAYS.) But the question is why? Because he’s mad he’s a jotunn? Because he’s finally had it with Asgard? Because he’s demonized Thor for being swayed by his Midgardian whore ladyfriend and so sees fit for Midgard to just fucking burn?

Why did Loki do it? Certainly not because he just wanted to subjugate Midgard. That’s a stupid-ass idea, and Loki knows it. His plan would never have worked, and I think the Other/Chitauri just had no idea that Loki was essentially conning them. (I mean seriously, the Chitauri army didn’t make it past Central Park. And then they had a nuke chucked at them. Loki can do better than that.) Loki is nothing but a strategist. All of his actions have a distinct purpose, right down to watching and smirking at Banner as he walks by the Science Bros Lair. (IMHO, he wanted the Avengers to assemble, he even fucking gave them their ‘something to avenge’ — continuing his plea for help by creating the Avengers to do so.) Was it Thanos, so Loki could get back to Odin’s vault to get the infinity gauntlet? Maybe, but we won’t know that until Thor 2 at the very least. Was it mind control? The arguments are weak and would follow better as psychological torture than tesseract mind control.

Ugh. You know what?

Okay, I have a mighty need to say some things. (Or, as it turns out, a LOT of things. Sorry. I meta my way through feels.)

About Loki’s rationality. Yes, in the execution of his plan he is rational. He plans. That is what Loki does. He plans for all the different outcomes he can see. But him being rational doesn’t say anything about why he does things. And when it comes to his whys you can’t expect him to be rational. His motivations in The Avengers, much like in Thor, are highly emotional, and only rational in a very twisted way.

In Thor he is hurt, he feels betrayed, and he is scared. His whole world has crumbled down and he is in a very emotional and psychologically unstable place. All his pent up frustrations (always being the second son, feeling like the black sheep of the family, being looked down upon for his methods, and just generally feeling different) combine with the realisation that he is not only intrinsically different, but the Other. He is the monster people tell their children about at night. The rest of Thor he spends running away from his own identity and trying to prove he is worthy to be called Odin’s son. That he is not just a useless tool, that Odin can gain something from keeping him. (I’ve talked about how I think about Loki’s relationship with Odin here.)

At the same time Thor becomes everything that he feels he could never be. And he hates him for it. These feelings were already present, but these events cemented them. So then when the Warriors Three and Sif disobey his express command, committing treason by doing so, he sort of… snaps. The people who, as far as the narrative has told us, have never shown him any of the respect he (feels he) deserves, not only as a person but as a prince, disregard him for THOR of all people, and he makes the decision to send the Destroyer. I’m not condoning it, by the way, just trying to explain where I think Loki comes from. But, and this is very important, strategically this is a very bad move. Loki isn’t just rational, this decision was motivated by emotion, because he felt betrayed and longed to hurt Thor. He told Thor Odin had died for the same reason. When Loki hurts he will pay it forward.

By the end of the movie Loki feels even more betrayed and hurt by Thor. For years, decades, maybe even centuries, he tried to teach Thor how to be a good king. The coronation being interrupted by Frost Giants as a last ditch effort as well as a chance to deal a blow to Thor. Everything backfired, of course, but his intentions weren’t all bad. So when Thor returns from Midgard after like, three days, and he has learned the lesson Loki had been trying to teach him all that time, Loki can’t handle it. He can’t handle Thor. And the sad thing is? Thor learned humility when Loki told him Odin had died. Totally unintentionally Loki finally did it, and Jane got the credit. Probably best if nobody in that universe ever realises this…

The ending of Thor is, in my eyes, one big tragic miscommunication between Loki and Odin. With Loki hearing the exact opposite of what Odin meant. You know what, my thoughts are in the above link.

Then we come to The Avengers. Do I think he was brainwashed? Hell no. Please keep that shit as far away from me as possible. Do I think he was tortured into it? No. At least not in an obvious way. His masters would be incredibly stupid to severely torture him and then put one of the greatest powers of the universe in his hands. This is Loki we’re talking about. If you hurt him, he will hurt you. Emotional and psychological manipulation that could be considered torture? Very, very likely. Make that a “yes”. Loki looked like shit when he arrived, but I don’t think it was the result of torture. I mean, come on, he just travelled across space and through the raw power of the Tesseract. That has to rough you up a bit.

Still, even with the manipulation, he would have to have some motivation of his own for them to manipulate. So what was it? Again, hurting Thor. Midgard is under his brother’s protection. If he conquers it, he finally gets a throne, something which he feels entitled to (after all, his was told from a young age he was born to be a king. Nice parenting skills, Odin), and on top of that he gets to hurt Thor.

As we’ve seen before, a chance to hurt Thor clouds Loki’s strategic judgement. He’s frustrated that Thor still isn’t seeing his side of the story (always living in Thor’s shade, being betrayed while he was the rightful king), and he wants to hurt Thor. And while I think Loki feels like he was pushed over the edge, as he didn’t see his family providing a future for him, he said it harsher than was necessary to get his point across. Because he was in pain and wanted to inflict it on someone else. The added bonus of saying it like this is that Thor will of course disregard his statement, and he will get to feel even more vindicated. Thor is still not seeing him, after all. By the way, half truths, classic Loki.

Everything he does in this movie is to gain self-respect and/or hurt Thor. So Coulson is right, he lacks conviction. I don’t know if Loki would have had any idea what to do if his plan succeeded (alright, he had some vague ideas, but these weren’t the goal) or if he would even be that pleased, the same way he didn’t look pleased when he dropped Thor from the Helicarrier. And his need for validation is dripping of the screen. Ever notice how every time he is shot down it is in the middle of a monologue? In Asgard he felt unheard, and now he is in a position where people have to listen to him. So he talks when he should be acting. That’s one of the reasons his plans fail.

Another is that he underestimated the Avengers. I think his plan was as follows: gather the Avengers and destroy them. What better way to affirm your dominance than to defeat the mightiest warriors a realm has to offer? If he doesn’t get rid of them now they will always be a threat. But he underestimated them, or rather he overestimated himself. If Loki had been purely rational and in control of himself there is a very real possibility he would have won. Why he didn’t win is because this was basically a tantrum. A tantrum with at its core some very valid reasons, but still a tantrum in the way that there isn’t any real control.

Also, I don’t see any merit in the theory that this all one big scheme by Thanos to get into the Vault. I’m sure we can think of scenarios where he wouldn’t have to sacrifice an entire army to get Loki back to Asgard, and the narrative isn’t giving me any indications that Thanos planned it this way. Not even his smirk in the post-credits scene. So, no.

Last thing: Loki knew that Thor wouldn’t understand him, because he knows his brother doesn’t speak in metaphors. But how long has Thor known Loki? He should know his brother does speak in metaphors. Loki doesn’t want to have to spell it out for him. He wants Thor to see him. And Thor not seeing this nor Loki is a big part of the problem between these two.

Loki could offer solutions for their broken relationship. But then again, why would he have to be the only one? Repairing a relationship can only be done from both sides, and as long as Loki doesn’t see any real effort from Thor he will not put his in either. For this relationship to repair Thor will have to acknowledge the unimagined slights. Loki does make it more difficult for Thor to see them. So like I said: nobody sabotages Loki like Loki sabotages Loki

WILL YOU TWO JUST FUCKING COMMUNICATE ALREADY?

Thank you.
